“Hey Rick,

Love following your blog. Always look forward to your posts on poker. I’m in no way an expert and pretty much a beginner to all of this but what’s your take on blackjack. In the end is it a hopeless game that the house will always win or is there a way to actually make money playing?”

I used to play blackjack when I first moved out to las vegas. I would play 8 hrs of poker at the Bellagio and then to wind down I would Play in a few casinos that had positive ev games close by the Bellagio and after a few glasses of wine would head home:)

The rules then were that if you were a card counter you should play no longer then 1 hr at any sitting. I followed this an avoided any difficulty however if you think limit poker is a grind….blackjack is worse. Your edge is minimal….and casinos are on to card counters and have been for quite awhile. I did it for a few years…made a little money and was entertained….but have not played for quite awhile now.

There are some great books out on card counting. The most entertaining is ” Million Dollar Backjack” By Ken Huston. There of course is thorpe’s book…and many others.

If your looking at it to entertain yourself..you will have fun…if your looking to make some serious money…I wouldn’t waste my time with it.

Agree 100% about what a grind BJ is. Couldn’t agree more with your last statement as well.
