Sociology 101

One of the most intriguing things about playing poker in poker rooms such as the belagio is you will play with and get to know players from all different walks of life and from all over the world.

You will play with people with PHDs to no education at all. From movie stars, doctors and lawyers,computer professionals to people that have no job and never worked except to play poker or hustle. (it used to be that many of the best players were ones with no formal education and hustled for a living. That has changed somewhat with phd types taking poker seriously now)

You will play with people that have never gotten even a speeding ticket to people with many felony convictions and may even have several criminal endeavors as a pasttime.

You will play with people that have a relatively normal psychological profile to ones that border on the outer edges of dysfunctional behavior.

You will also play with people from all over the world. You will learn certain traits and characteristics that are more common based upon the country people come from.

That is what makes playing poker interesting aside from the decision making problems you come up with. Its something you should look forward to experiencing. Interacting on a successful level with many of these types is challenging but possible although can be stressful at times if you take things personal,

The best approach is to take nothing personal, enjoy the challenge and not forget your goal. To make money! Thats it period.

Dont lose site of the fact that every one that is in the games goal is to make money. Sometimes you might think the way some are talking and carrying on that they are not serious about the game….not so. Most are there with one goal…to make money and take it from the other players. And that is the way it should be…poker is a zero sum game… and should be played that way. No quarter asked and no quarter given!
