7 stud Hi
This game is my least favorite of all the games. Why…probably because I am the least skilled at this game even though I have 5 years of playing 50-100 HOSE five days a week in Chicago.
Stud in las vegas is about dead. They spread one 20-40 stud game at the bellagio. But the rake is so high its almost impossible to beat for any money. A few days a week they spread a 40-80 stud hi game but it only lasts a few hours.
The reality is that most tourists that come to vegas want to play Hold em …either no limit or limit.
If you want to play stud the places to go are the commerce club in LA and Atlantic City where 7 card stud is thriving.
If your wanting to learn the game there is of course Sklansky and Malmuth’s book “Seven Card Stud for advanced players” But there is another little known book that is great…”Seven Card Stud Poker” By Konstantin Othmer.
Some short observations about stud. You can go a long time without a playable hand. The biggest thrill in the game is looking down to see a roll up ie three of a kind. There is very little difference in the starting hands..ie the edge is small based upon the first three cards. Nothing like holdem before the flop. That is probably why you see some of the looser players who get buried fast in the other games think stud is there best game!
