“The deep end”
I dont care how seasoned you are as a poker player or a gambler but all of us come close to the deep end. This is the edge of reason and sanity. For what ever reason either a bad run of luck, personal problems or whatever else I see players from time to time completely loose their grasp on reality.
The worst I have seen since I have been here in Las Vegas is a player I have played with steadily since I came here. I have always known this person to be logical, friendly and overall a winning player.
But several years ago that person went through one of the worst downswings I have seen for a regular player. Toward the end of the downswing that person acted exactly like Robert Deniro in “taxi driver” before he went on his killing spree:)
Then that person took a year off and was relatively normal for a few months….but never really regained the original personality.
The gist of all of this is gambling on a daily basis is very stress full even when your running fine. But combine that with being exposed to the outer edges of variance you really need to have someone that can be a check for you to let you know when you may be approaching that deep end!
