Rick,
Great job sniffing-out that play tonight! The betting public must have been devastated after that meaningless TD. I, for one, loved it! Keep up the great work! Love the blog!
Rick, how do you feel about the opinion of these games being fixed? With the amount of time left on the clock, Titans should've kicked the FG and gone for an onside kick to try and win. Instead they drive to score a meaningless touchdown and even kick the PAT to cover 2.5. It doesn't make any sense no matter how you look at it unless you are trying to cover exactly 2.5 (which coveniently covers all the line movements as well)
Eric the game wasn't fixed. If it was fixed, based on your thinking, then the reason they didn't kick the FG was because the coach was in on the fix. Now meanwhile they moved the distance of the field so maybe Indy is in on it too? The coaches and players are paid a ton of money. They are going to risk it all to help the books beat the public? And a huge risk it is because so many people would need be in on it. I could possibly see maybe one person in on a fix as unlikely as I think that is but a conspiracy would certainly be too risky to expect it wouldn't get leaked.
Have heard this fix talk before and from my point of view I discount it as hogwash. Let's finally realize that these guys in VEGAS are EXPERTS in making lines as if they know the outcome of the game before it starts. They know what side he PUBLIC will favor and they shade their lines and totals to accommodate them. These back door beats are awful to handle-and it does not even out-so you have to ride with the hurts.
The other problem with the "fix" theory is as the time had run down to 30 seconds or so.. they needed the td because if they onside kicked and recovered, they would only be able to run a couple of plays and possibly kick that fg instead of a couple of hail marys.. so even the logic of what happened there is nothing to support anything involving a fix..
Agree totally with previous post. Any analysis that the "right" play was to kick a FG on first down w 30 secs left from the 20 must be based on the dimwitted commentary by Theisman and Millen.
