I have been asked about the above game. The lesson is not as important as the pitt syracuse game but it does have some instructive value.
We have #8 Duke traveling to unranked N Car. 70% of the betting is on the road favorite Duke. On Pinnacle the line opened at -2.5 and is now -2.5-110. Cris -3 to -2.5 and of course Bovada has -3.
My models lean toward Duke….variables are absent on the game for both sides. The problem with the game is home dogs and road Fav <7 are subsets of games that typically are the hardest to find value in. The public number for home dogs has to be <20 to even consider the home dog. At 30% for N Car we are not even close to that number. This game is an easy pass for me. I would be hard pressed to even guess at the right side. Pitt Syracuse The number 1 team in the country is traveling to Pitt tonight. Syracuse comes into this game with a 24-0 record. Whats interesting about the game is that Pitt is favored by 2.5! Now.....without even looking at the public numbers I would think every square bettor in the country would be all over Syracuse. AFter all...24-0 getting 2.5 pts. A no Brainer:) But lets take a closer look. As expected 76% of the betting is on Syracuse tonight. But the line does not reflect that the books agree with the squares. Pinnacle the line opened at -1 pitt and is now -2.5-110 ...very similar on Chris. Bovada the line has not opened but most likely will be -2 or even -1.5. This is a game that you need to be on Pitt or pass on the game. Now I will be passing as the variables I look at are split on the game. These trap plays come along all the time is sports betting and they are never as good as they appear. Its the old adage...if something looks like a cinch in sports betting.....take the other side! Tuesday we had no plays.
